Life
is short and we never know when our sand is going to run out. I’ve been
fumbling around this old ball of dirt for 23 whole years, and I know that
really isn’t that big of an accomplishment. But the few things I’ve discovered help me wake up with a smile.
First,
love family! Family is the greatest gift God could have ever blessed us with,
other than his never ending love. This picture was taken back in 2009, at my
uncle Squire’s house. I was home on leave from Pendleton. This is a picture of
my brother Davey and myself. This little kid is my best friend, he has always
been there for me and I’ve always tried to be there for him.
Second, don’t
be afraid to look ridiculous. I try and do something that makes me look like a
bonehead at least once a day. I was at a party and a girl had this purse that
looked like that top part of a pare of jeans. So I took it and put it on my head
and ran around singing country songs. People were laughing their butts off and I
looked ridiculous.
Third, stop
and look around. Enjoy the world around you, enjoy nature. Breathe in the fresh
air, look at a beautiful sunset. I was in the field for 30 days and I took my
camera with me. Every night I was up before the sun and I went to bed long
after it went down. I was blessed with a beautiful sun set and sun rise.
That last paragraph is really important and something that I try and do everyday, though sometimes the moments slip by. Something I really enjoy doing is just looking up at night, looking at the stars and breathing in the cold air. Taking in the beauty of the world gives me a peaceful feeling.
ReplyDeleteMike, you have taught me all over again how appearances really are skin deep. Don't worry about the sub-text of that sentence, it only says things about me and not you. You have some real depth and original thought. Keep writing and find more books to enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteNice, I like how you dive into it right away, it makes your point stronger and it really does get you thinking! Oh and by the way, I wish I was there to see you being a fool of yourself with that purse and singing lol
ReplyDeleteInspirational post Mike. I really enjoy watching the sunrise and the sunset. I find it so worth getting up early for it. If you do it long enough, you are able to see the way the sunrise changes with the seasons.
ReplyDeleteI also like your advice to do something ridiculous every once in a while. It's important that we keep our lightness and sense of humor and joy. Well said.
